Ekk Deewana Tha is a romantic drama movie, written and directed by Gautham Menon, starring Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson in the lead roles. Amy Jackson is an English model turned actress who is making her Bollywood debut with this movie.
This movie is a remake version of Gautham Menon’s own Tamil movie, ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa’, which too got remade in Telugu as ‘Ye Maaya Chesave’ in 2010. However in all the three movies, the soundtrack and background score were composed by maestro A. R. Rahman, whereas the cinematography and editing are done by M. S. Prabhu and Anthony Gonsalves, respectively. Singer Chinmayi has dubbed the voice of Amy Jackson, who is reprising her character in this movie from the original Tamil version and the Telugu remake. Chinmayi has also dubbed the voice for the actresses Trisha Krishnan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who have worked in Tamil and Telugu versions respectively.
Earlier the movie was titled as ‘Prem Katha’, but later it was renamed as ‘Ekk Deewana Tha’, because the director was wishing to have some conceptual title for the film, which would be related to the original. Although at first, actress Trisha Krishnan was about to enact the character in the Hindi remake version, but she was abruptly dropped from the task after a photo-shoot and thus was swapped by Amy Jackson, who became famous in her Tamil movie ‘Madrasapattinam’.
Ekk Deewana Tha is produced by Gautham Menon, Reshma Ghatala and Venkat Somasundaram, under the banner of Fox Star Studios, Photon Kathaas Production and R. S. Infotainment.
The filming of the movie was scheduled to begin in the late 2010, but the lead actor Prateik Babbar was busy with the promotions for Dhobi Ghat. Ultimately, the filming of the movie began on April 2011 in Mumbai, with the complete cast and crew of the movie. After completing the Mumbai schedule, the team went to Kerala and started the second schedule there in May 2011.
Once the filming of the movie in Kerala was finished, they made their trip to Chennai in June 2011 to shoot a handful of significant scenes in Amethyst, Chennai and a few of the songs were even shot in AVM Studios, Chennai. However, in July 2011, after the filming of the movie in Chennai was over, the next schedule of the movie commenced at The Taj Mahal in Agra, and thereafter it was also held in the Capital city, Delhi.
